Quick answer: Cytorox 1000mg (cytarabine) is a 10ml vial of chemotherapy for acute leukaemias, especially acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Hospitals often use this larger vial when the treatment plan calls for higher doses. It is given only in hospital, usually as a drip into a vein. MedHub supplies it on prescription with delivery across Pakistan.

For patients and families

What is Cytorox 1000mg?

Cytorox 1000mg contains 1000mg of cytarabine in 10ml of solution and comes from Pharmasol in Pakistan. Leukaemia cells grow and divide much faster than most healthy cells. Cytarabine gets built into their DNA as they divide and blocks the enzyme that copies it, which stops the cancer cells multiplying.

What is it used for?

Haematologists rely on cytarabine for:

  • Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in children and adults, as one of several medicines in the plan.
  • Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), both to clear the leukaemia from the bone marrow and, in higher doses, to deepen and hold the remission.
  • Chronic myeloid leukaemia that has moved into its blast phase.

Whether you need standard or high-dose cytarabine depends on the type of leukaemia, your age, your genetic test results and how well earlier treatment worked.

How is it given?

Specialist nurses give cytarabine in a hospital or cancer centre. With higher doses it runs as a drip over one to three hours, often twice a day on set days, and staff check your balance, speech and eyes before each dose. Your doctor decides the dose and the number of courses.

Common side effects

  • Low white cells, platelets and red cells for some weeks after each course
  • Sore, red or watery eyes with higher doses
  • Feeling sick, vomiting and mouth sores
  • A flu-like reaction with fever, bone pain and rash
  • Raised liver tests

Alert your nurse at once if you notice unsteadiness, slurred speech, shaky hands, a temperature of 38°C or more, breathing difficulty or unusual bleeding.

Storage

Keep Cytorox 1000mg in its outer carton below 25°C. Hospital pharmacy staff usually handle storage and prepare the infusion.

Families in the UAE, UK and Saudi Arabia regularly arrange Cytorox 1000mg through us for a parent having leukaemia treatment in Pakistan. For smaller doses, ask about Cytorox 500mg. Older patients with AML may receive Decibine 50mg (decitabine) instead, and our oncology section lists other chemotherapy medicines.

Frequently asked questions

Which leukaemias does Cytorox 1000mg treat?

It treats acute myeloid leukaemia, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and chronic myeloid leukaemia in blast phase. It is usually one part of a multi-drug plan.

What is the Cytorox 1000mg price in Pakistan?

Cytorox 1000mg costs Rs 1,750 per vial. Prices can change with supply, so message us on WhatsApp for today’s price before you order.

Does MedHub deliver Cytorox 1000mg to Lahore, Karachi or Peshawar?

Yes. We deliver to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Multan and Faisalabad, and to other cities in Pakistan.

Is a prescription needed for Cytorox 1000mg?

Yes. It is a prescription-only chemotherapy. Send your haematologist’s prescription on WhatsApp so our pharmacist can verify it before we dispatch.

What is the difference between Cytorox 1000mg and 500mg?

Both vials hold the same medicine at the same concentration, but the 1000mg vial contains twice the amount. Hospitals often choose it for high-dose courses, so fewer vials need opening per dose.

Why are eye drops given with Cytorox 1000mg?

High-dose cytarabine can irritate the eyes and cause painful conjunctivitis. Steroid eye drops during and after the course help prevent this, and your team explains how to use them.

How is Cytorox 1000mg given, and how is it stored?

A nurse gives it as a drip into a vein in hospital, often over one to three hours. Store the vials below 25°C in their carton until use.

Can I arrange Cytorox 1000mg for my parents in Pakistan from overseas?

Yes. Families in the UAE, UK and Saudi Arabia do this through MedHub. Share the prescription on WhatsApp, and we arrange payment and delivery to the treating hospital.
