Quick answer: Jakavi 15mg (ruxolitinib) is a targeted tablet for myelofibrosis, polycythaemia vera and graft-versus-host disease after a stem cell transplant. You swallow it by mouth at home, usually twice a day. MedHub supplies it on prescription and delivers it to patients in every city across Pakistan.

For patients and families

What is Jakavi 15mg?

Jakavi 15mg is Novartis’s brand of ruxolitinib, a medicine from a group called JAK inhibitors. In some bone marrow diseases, signals inside blood-forming cells stay switched on. This overactivity enlarges the spleen and causes night sweats, itching, fever and weight loss. Ruxolitinib turns those signals down, so the spleen often shrinks and many people feel noticeably better within weeks.

What is it used for?

Haematologists prescribe ruxolitinib for:

  • Myelofibrosis: scarring of the bone marrow, whether it starts on its own or follows polycythaemia vera or essential thrombocythaemia. It helps an enlarged spleen and the symptoms that come with it.
  • Polycythaemia vera: when the body makes too many red cells and hydroxyurea has not worked or causes problems.
  • Graft-versus-host disease (GvHD): acute or chronic GvHD after a stem cell transplant, when steroids have not controlled it well enough.

Your specialist chooses the strength based on your platelet count and how you respond. Other strengths include Mylonib 15mg and Mylonib 5mg, both made in Pakistan.

How is it taken?

You swallow the tablet with water, with or without food, at about the same times each day. Your doctor decides the dose and may raise or lower it after checking your blood counts. Do not stop Jakavi 15mg suddenly on your own, because symptoms can come back quickly. Your doctor or pharmacist explains how to take it and what to do if you miss a dose.

Common side effects

  • Low red cells (anaemia), which can make you tired or breathless
  • Low platelets, which can cause easy bruising or bleeding
  • Dizziness and headache
  • Weight gain and higher cholesterol levels
  • Urine infections and shingles

Contact your doctor straight away if you get a fever, a painful blistering rash, unusual bleeding, black stools, or new confusion, weakness or problems with eyesight.

Storage

Keep the tablets in the original pack below 30°C, away from moisture and out of the reach of children. A kitchen cupboard or bathroom shelf is often too warm or damp, so pick a cool, dry drawer instead.

For healthcare professionals

  • Composition: ruxolitinib (as phosphate) 15 mg per tablet
  • Drug class: selective Janus kinase (JAK1 and JAK2) inhibitor
  • Indications: disease-related splenomegaly or symptoms in adults with primary myelofibrosis, post-polycythaemia vera myelofibrosis or post-essential thrombocythaemia myelofibrosis; polycythaemia vera in adults resistant to or intolerant of hydroxyurea; acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease in patients aged 12 years and older with inadequate response to corticosteroids or other systemic therapies
  • Mechanism: inhibits JAK1 and JAK2, reducing dysregulated JAK-STAT signalling that drives myeloproliferation and inflammatory cytokine release

Frequently asked questions

What is Jakavi 15mg used for?

It treats myelofibrosis, polycythaemia vera that no longer responds to hydroxyurea, and graft-versus-host disease after a stem cell transplant. It shrinks an enlarged spleen and eases symptoms such as night sweats and itching.

What is the Jakavi 15mg price in Pakistan?

Jakavi 15mg costs Rs 69,000 to Rs 383,000 per pack of 56 tablets. Prices can change with supply, so message us on WhatsApp for today’s price before you order.

Is Jakavi 15mg available in Lahore, Karachi or Peshawar?

Yes. We deliver across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Multan and Faisalabad.

Do I need a prescription for Jakavi 15mg?

Yes. Ruxolitinib is a prescription-only medicine that needs regular blood tests. Send a clear photo of your haematologist’s prescription on WhatsApp, and our pharmacist checks it before we confirm your order.

How do I take Jakavi 15mg?

Swallow the tablet by mouth, usually twice a day about 12 hours apart, with or without food. Follow the dose on your prescription and keep every blood test appointment.

Why does a pack of Jakavi 15mg hold 56 tablets?

Most patients take two tablets a day, so 56 tablets cover four weeks of treatment. If your doctor has prescribed a different dose, our pharmacist helps you work out how long one pack lasts.

Who usually gets Jakavi 15mg rather than a lower strength?

Doctors often start adults with myelofibrosis on 15mg twice daily when their platelet count sits in a middle range. People with lower platelets, kidney or liver problems usually need a smaller dose, and your specialist adjusts it over time.

Can I order Jakavi 15mg for my father or mother in Pakistan from abroad?

Yes. Families in the UAE, UK and Saudi Arabia regularly order through MedHub for parents at home. Share the prescription on WhatsApp, and our team arranges payment and delivery to their house or hospital.
